What will cities in Asia Pacific be like in the near future?

The World Cities Summit 2016, which takes place from July 10th to 14th in Singapore, will examine how new policies, technologies and social innovations can help cities manage themselves better and become more resilient.By developing both centralized and decentralized energy production capacity and facilitating greater access to sustainable energy in Asia Pacific, ENGIE is progressing towards its goal of becoming a major player in the energy transition in developing countries. The Group is taking part in the 2016 World Cities Summit, where it will introduce the new energy model it is developing in the Asia Pacific region.

ENGIE has been building up its assets in Asia Pacific since the 1990s to help support the region’s development. The Group is currently making the most of its businesses in the area by putting environmental concerns at the center of its development projects.

ENGIE events agenda

Isabelle Kocher will take part in the Summit on 11 July, providing a keynote speech during the second session of the opening plenary on the subject of partnership and collaboration. She will be speaking alongside Charles O Holliday, Chairman of Royal Dutch Shell, Dr. Judith Rodin, President of the Rockefeller Foundation, Laurence Tubiana, France’s Ambassador for Climate Negotiations, and Park Won Soon, Mayor of Seoul (South Korea).

Themed events to share case studies and best practices

Olivier Biancarelli, ENGIE’s Managing Director for Decentralized Solutions for cities and regions, will participate in a session on the topic "The cities we want – successful partnerships for sustainable development" on July 11th.

Raphaël Schoentgen, Director of ENGIE’s Research and Technologies Division, will speak at the "Smart cities: scalable, sustainable and user-friendly urban innovations" session on July 12th.

European and Asian innovators will then come pitch their best ideas for IoT projects for local low-power WANs for an audience made up of specialists from ENGIE, SigFox and Nanyang Technological University, on July 13th.

Lastly, ENGIE’s hospitality suite will host a demonstration of the 3D simulator and demonstrator developed by the BtoT métier that is meant to help cities and regions make more informed decisions. This platform lets them:

  • Model urban services offered by ENGIE and observe their impact in a realistic environment,
  • Visualize key data (about air quality, noise, solar potential, etc.)
  • Simulate the impact of potential decisions (ex. related to urban planning, mobility) to help explain, discuss, and ultimately make decisions about development projects.
